The company has a strategic partnership with Ebara Elliott Energy for the development, demonstration, and testing of industrial scale compressors using power modules. NuScale Power Corporation was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon.
What does it do?
NuScale Power builds small modular reactors (SMRs) — think of them as mini nuclear power plants that can fit on a single site and generate enough electricity for about 50,000 homes. Unlike the massive, stadium-sized nuclear plants you might picture, NuScale's reactor module is small enough to be factory-built and shipped by truck or rail to wherever it's needed. The core product is called the NuScale Power Module, which produces 77 megawatts of clean electricity. A customer can stack up to 12 of these modules together to scale up power output as their needs grow.
The world is desperately searching for ways to generate large amounts of clean, reliable electricity — especially as AI data centers, electric vehicles, and factories demand more power than wind and solar alone can reliably deliver. Nuclear power runs 24/7 regardless of weather, which makes it uniquely valuable in a way that solar panels and wind turbines simply aren't. NuScale is one of the only companies with an SMR design that has already received approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, giving it a rare head start in what could become a massive new energy market.
How does it make money?
NuScale currently generates almost no revenue — it is still in the development and licensing phase, not yet selling operational reactors. The business model is designed around licensing its reactor technology to utilities, governments, and industrial customers who would then build and operate the plants. It also earns money from providing regulatory and engineering services to help customers navigate the complex process of getting nuclear plants approved and built. Until a plant is actually constructed and running, meaningful revenue remains a future goal rather than today's reality.
